News Re: China
1) China’s retail season is underway. Chinese domestic markets will test retail sales with lower fur prices. If the lower finished product prices help reduce inventories this will encourage the market. We will see what items will be demanded.
2) The recent legal issues of up to 30 people (in the Chinese fur industry) could make buyers back away from buying until “normalcy” is reached for importation again. This process could take months. The desire is that a legal means of importing would be used by each player in the market. Other industries have been through these legal misfortunes in China and importation stability has been established.
3 )Weak sales to Russia due to the crisis with Ukraine, low oil prices and a weak Ruble create hurdles in the flow of trade which effect the raccoon market. Also, it is more difficult to get money out of Russia relative to the past year.
